Heather and Matt's Wedding in St. John's

Flew into St. John's on the equivalent of a culvert, shot the wedding, missed my flight home and ended up driving 700 kms white knuckled and late into the night in a blinding snowstorm. This was an interesting one to say the least!

My Favourite Wedding Images of 2011

Looking back i certainly had a fun and exciting 2011. I've photographed weddings from one end of the Island to the other.

After a wedding in Ramea I, along with another 100 who attended the wedding waited in line on the dock early the morning after for the ferry back to the mainland. A wedding photographer from Halifax trusted me to shoot his wedding. I flew to St. John's to shoot an old friends wedding who happens to now be married to a gentleman who makes movies in Holywood. I missed my flight home from that one and had to drive through the night in a blinding snowstorm to get home in time to shoot a Halloween wedding in Frenchman's Cove. People ask me what i did for New Years....Shot a wedding of course!

I've just started the process of updating some of the images on my website as they are all over a year old are getting a little old in the tooth.

Weddings are a big part of my business so starting there was a no brainer. However it was a tough task as that meant sifting through somewhere between 40-50 thousand images to pick out my favs!

Here are 60 of my favourites from 2011. They are in no special order or sequence. And i'm more than certain that if i sifted through all the wedding image i shot this past summer again i'd probably pick an entirely different 60 images!

ps....There are a few weddings i shot just after Xmas that won't be included as i haven't finalized the edits to the images yet.

And it seems i'm constantly blessed with having great couples to work with!

Sarah and Sean's Wedding in Stephenville, Newfoundland

Sarah and Sean's wedding took place in Stephenville in early November. I was apprehensive that the weather would be tough this time of the year and of course there is very limited daylight.

Thankfully, even though the temps were all that favourable there was good could cover offering soft portrait light.

As for early sunset it was pretty spectacular! We timed it perfectly with our arrival at a local beach and had 10 minutes of great light when the sun found a little sliver of an opening in the clouds just above the horizon!

Sabrina and Crispen's Halloween Wedding

A few days before this wedding saw me flying to St. John's to photograph a different wedding. The trip home got a little interesting!

I tried checking in a few hours before my flight was scheduled to leave only to learn that the flight had already taken off and had landed in Deer Lake. WTF!?!?

Panic set in as i had a wedding the day after in Frenchman's Cove in the Bay of Islands starting around noon which meant i really really really had to get my a$$ home in a hurry!

Fortunately a long time friend happened to be leaving St. John's for Corner Brook later that afternoon with hopes to arrive home by midnight or so. The catch was that the central and the west coast of Newfoundland were forecasted to get 20-30 cms of snow that evening!

We hit the snow around Clarenville and it didn't let up the entire way home. Somewhere around Gander we were in a line of cars doing about 30 km/h on the highway. By Springdale we were pushing snow with the bumper of the car as they must have hauled all the plows off the road. A 7 hour drive turned into a 12 hour white knuckler.

Thankfully i was able to get a few hours of sleep before heading out to shoot this Halloween wedding at Skona House in Frenchman's Cove.

Renee and Jon's Corner Brook Wedding

Renee asked me last fall to shoot engagement photos for her and Jon. She then hired me to photograph their wedding this past summer which was a freaking hoot! Being comfortable with both of them and having a fun and inviting bridal party and family around really helps me do my job well. We were also fortunate to have great weather and fall colours, although with all the black and whites posted here you might have never known!

Jackie and Wally's Corner Brook Wedding

Jackie and Wally's wedding was touch and go weather wise! We left the church in a downpour! The entire time i was watching the weather radar via my iPhone hoping and praying for a little break in the rain for a few outside photos. Luck was on their side just long enough for us to get some great images in with dramatic lighting.

I don't think i've ever seen a groom smile so much in my entire life! Every time i looked in his direction Wally's smile was from ear to ear which is quite uncommon in most grooms! He must know just how lucky he is to find a sweetheart like Jackie! :)

I had a great time at their wedding and met some fantastic people during the course of the day!
